Neuron Orgasm Series

Context:

These paintings were made on 16 squares of wood. The idea was to create an unconcious work that uses many layers and is open to accident in the way Francis Bacon often talked about and be alive to the sensation of the paint. I entertained the idea of them being beamed up to space like the audio satellite projectors in the Nevada desert which try to communicate with the stars. The point is to investigate primordial forces which draw matter together and create existence and consciousness.

Title:

It’s about the idea of a happy neuron - one in climax. The sense that neurons are in this state of ecstasy when in creative mode. The explosive and lyrical impact of the paint represents this potential.

Process:

They were made on the floor and then developed on tables and easels with large sweeping brushes.

A further technique was developed which involved using the paintings as templates to print onto canvas which is then painted one and the process can be repeated as an endless or infinite painting.

Palette:

I used paint that I had collected over many years- all colours that represented objects, rooms and memories. Essentially held psychic weight.

At the time I was training as an art psychotherapist and studied Jungian dreamwork and active imagination. I am able to meditate on the images and grow environments to interact with in my mind.
